Most well-known High Tatras ski resorts are in close vicinity of Velka Lomnica: Tatranska Lomnica, which it one of the most favorite ones (10 km); Jakubkova luka in Stary Smokovec is ideal for beginner skiers (13 km) as well as Strbske Pleso with easy and intermediate slopes (28 km). You can also visit neighboring Lopusna valley (17 km) or well-known Bachledova dolina in Zdiar (26km). Both Velka and Tatranska Lomnica offer well-groomed cross-country skiing trails.
One of the main attractions in the surroundings is Lomnicky peak (2634 meters above sea level). You can make a trip to the second highest peak of the High Tatras by taking a comfortable cable railway from Tatranska Lomnica. At the top of Lomnicky Peak, you can relax while having a cup of coffee and enjoy the unforgettable panoramic view overlooking the High Tatras below.
All adrenaline enthusiasts can definitely enjoy themselves at Slnecna luka (Sunny meadow) below the Grand hotel Praha. You can try out TATRABOB, a mountain bobsled ride, which is open daily whole year round from 9:00 am – 6 pm. You can control the speed of the sled yourself by using breaks on a slope 482 meters long with 12 turns.
Hiking - bicycle touring:
There are more than 300 km of different types of marked cycle routes that vary in difficulty in the area of High Tatras. Poprad cycle routes within the trunk road network belong to the most favorite cycle routes. You can bike from Poprad to Lopusna valley, but also try a route to Zakovska polana (Tatranska Lomnica – Nova Lesna – Zakovska polana) or pass by Salviovy pramen to “Brncalka/ Brncalova chalet” (Biela voda – Chata pri Zelenom plese/the chalet by the Zelene pleso)
AquaCity Poprad :
After a tiring day of skiing or hiking, AquaCity Poprad is a true paradise for water enthusiasts where they can relax to the fullest. Treat yourself with a visit to outdoor swimming pools, the Blue Sapphire Pool, the Blue Diamond Pool, the Treasure Island Pool (for children), the Mayan pyramid or 50 meters long swimming pool. Local wellness and spa are located on the area of 1600 m2 and are divided into a private zone and a party zone.
Thermal Park Vrbov:
The village of Vrbov, only 7 km far from Velka Lomnica, is well-known for its thermal pool. The visitors can swim at 10 pools, 4 of which are children’s pools. Water temperature is between 26-38 degrees Celsius. The thermal swimming pool is open throughout the year.
Black Stork golf course:
Energic guests can enjoy the benefits of 27-hole Golf Course which lies in the area of 12 ha with the beautiful submontane scenery. Driving range, covered teeing ground, chipping area, putting green, golf academy and gold simulator form Black Stork golf resort. There is a free entry to the covered teeing ground and practice area.
After a short walk through the forest path from a village of Tatranska Javorina you can find the only cave in the High Tatras open to the public. Belianska cave is known because of its bizarre rock shapes, sinter waterfalls, ponds, and a music hall named after the sound of drops falling on the surface of the pond. The cave tour takes about 70 minutes and is 1370 m long.
Historical and other sights:
History enthusiasts will find many interesting sights in the close neighborhood. The Royal Town of Kezmarok is only 8 km far. It is known by its Town Castle that was once inhabited by the Thököly family. You can also visit a unique wooden articular church that was built without using metal nails. An old town of Spisska Sobota is also well worth a visit. In 1950, the town was declared a National Historical Monument thanks to its intact middle-aged character.
One of the “must-do-visits” are the Spis Castle, which is the largest castle complex in Central Europe, the Holy Spirit Church in Zehra and the town of Spisska Kapitula and Spisske Podhradie. All these historic sights were included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
